Tropic Thunder Boycott

If you haven't heard about the controversy regarding the movie Tropic Thunder, then please visit 5 Minutes For Special Needs to read about it. I am joining the many others who will be boycotting this movie. I am also asking anyone who knows and loves us to please refrain from giving the makers of this film your money. Please don't go see it! Read Tammy's post at the link above and you will see exactly why I am so disgusted about this movie. And if you've missed my old posts regarding the word "retard" then visit these links here and here.

Hi Shannon---thanks for putting this on here. I actually ready Tammy's website often but haven't been to the 5 min. for Spe. Needs before. I can't imagen how it must feel to hear that word. My step-son used the R word several years ago....I explained that the R word was used in to tease his friends Robb, Sherri, etc and it was very hurtful. I haven't heard him use it again.---I run a residentail and day program for adults with Developmental Disabilities--

For some reason the R word is regularly used in conversation in New England. It blows my mind.

Just recently, MA has decided to change the name from Depart. of MR to Depart. of Developmental Services. Policy change first that comes attitude change...keep up the fight!

We've been getting a lot of information on this subject and I don't plan on watching it either. I haven't read 5 Minutes yet, but I'm working my way there!

The cure for ignorance and prejudice is information. People can educate themselves about autism by listening to the free Midnight In Chicago audio podcasts at www.mic.mypodcast.com. By understanding what autism is and how it works, they will be less likely to call people with autism and other differences "retards" and be more likely to respect them.
